Miami-Dade panel amends housing plan as mobile home residents decry $10K relocation cap

Miami-Dade Commissioners have approved changes to the county's state-funded housing assistance plan after residents of mobile home parks facing closure told them the county's $10,000 relocation payment falls far short of what displacement actually costs.
The County Commission's Housing Committee voted 4-0 to approve an amendment to the local housing assistance plan required under the State Housing Initiative Partnership (SHIP) Program, with a floor amendment from the administration adding "extremely low" income categories to those served and removing language tying relocation assistance to evictions due to mobile home park closures. Commissioner Juan Carlos Bermudez did not respond during the roll call.
Raquel Regalado moved the item, and she and Commissioner Kionne McGhee asked to be co-sponsors.
